TODAY marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Diana, the Princess of Wales.

The town will be among those remembering the 'people's princess' who during 1993 was in Bolton.

She visited Bolton School to officially open its Arts and Conference Centre, where she was greeted by many exciting and smiling youngsters.

Diana, Princess of Wales also visited Bolton Hospice

Since her death a number of young people of Bolton have received awards set up in her memory to celebrate the work of young people.

This year Brooke Taylor, aged 15, from Lostock received a Diana Award for raising money for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity having been treated there since birth for a spinal condition.

Yesterday the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry made a personal pilgrimage to view the floral tributes left in memory of their mother as Harry confessed "all of us lost somebody".

William and Harry stopped to look at the heartfelt messages, pictures and flowers left in remembrance of Diana, Princess of Wales at the gates of her former home Kensington Palace.

The royal brothers had spent an hour touring the temporary memorial White Garden in the grounds of the palace with Kate before making the short journey to the gates, which is fast becoming a shrine to their mother.

Sheltering from the heavy rain under an umbrella William knelt down to look at some of the bouquets left in tribute to his mother then later pointed out a picture to his brother that appeared to make him laugh.

William and Harry will pay tribute to their mother with a statue of Diana, Princess of Wales erected in the grounds of her former home.

They have said that, with the passing of the years, the time is appropriate to ''recognise her positive impact'' both at home and abroad with the monument at Kensington Palace.
