CHILDREN recovering in hospitals are being given presents by a Muslim charity celebrating their religious holiday.
More than 100 children, including some at Royal Bolton Hospital, will receive the gifts from Al-Khair Foundation this week.
The charity, who are celebrating the end of Ramadan and the start of Eid at the weekend, help people of all ages and faiths in the UK and around the world.
The children in Bolton, as well as at Royal Oldham Hospital, will each receive five presents, including cuddly toys, toy cars, footballs and bubble sticks.
They will also be given treats, including chocolates, drinks and lollies.
Aslam Atcha, a member of Al-Khair Foundation, said: “We want to mark this important moment in the Muslim calendar to show the true meaning of Eid and to share with people less fortunate.
“We want to celebrate Eid but also have thoughts for those children who are recovering from illnesses or accidents.
“We hope it will bring a bit of extra joy into their lives.”
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a time when Muslims across the world fast during the hours of daylight.
The end of Ramadan is marked by a big celebration called Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival of breaking the fast.
The festival begins when the first sight of the new moon is seen in the sky.
