ALL of Bolton’s mosques have been invited to join an event condemning terrorism this weekend.

Muslim organisation Minhaj-Ul-Quran will host an event in Daubhill designed to combat misconceptions about Islam and tackle radicalisation.

Yasmin Qureshi, Labour candidate for Bolton South East, will be among the speakers at the conference, which is being held at the Step Community Centre in Caroline Street.

She said: “Sadly, at this moment in time, many people are committing atrocities in the name of Islam.

“They are purporting to be Muslims, so it is imperative that all people come to this event to learn about what Islam actually stands for.

“I hope it will also be able to help people who may be vulnerable to radicalisation and provide a good counter-narrative to those who sow discord and hatred and who are completely misrepresenting Islam.”

More than 200 people are expected to attend the event, which runs from 2.30pm to 5.30pm on Sunday.

A spokesman for Minhaj-Ul-Quran said: “All 31 mosques and education centres in Bolton were invited by Minhaj-Ul Quran International to condemn terrorism and to take steps to prevent these evil incidents in future.

“All mosques have been given one copy of the declaration by Dr Muhammad Tahir-Ul-Qadri that the suicide bombings and killing of innocent people have no place in Islam and these terrorists will be punished after death according to Hadith and the Holy Quran.

“Mosques and education centres in Bolton have declared that only enemies of Islam and humanity are behind this evil, that has nothing whatsoever to do with Muslims and Islam, and that Isis and terrorism has no place in Islam and the Muslim community.”

Local councillors and other parliamentary candidates have also been invited.
