A CAR has been destroyed in a fire on the M61.

Fire crews from Horwich and Farnworth were called to the blaze on the sliproad near junction five.

The Vauxhall Corsa is said to have suffered an electrical fault.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The owner was there when we arrived, and we have now passed the incident on to Highways to deal with. The car is a complete wreck but the driver was fine and was picked up by his friend.

“The motorway is still running fine.”
