ALDI has officially opened its new state-of-the-art regional distribution centre.

The German supermarket giant has created its biggest facility in the UK on the former Cutacre mining site — at the Logistics North site in Over Hulton — with the distribution centre and new offices spanning over a 611,250 Sq Ft space. The new hub — which replaces Aldi’s existing distribution centre in Middleton — has seen 550 employees make the move across to Bolton.

The firm is also now looking to hire 100 new members of staff to work within the logistics side of its business in the coming months, with vacant positions advertised at aldirecruitment.co.uk/logistics.

As part of Aldi’s continuing growth strategy, the Bolton distribution centre features a whole floor dedicated to the Academy, Aldi’s recruitment and training department.

About 15 recruitment and training specialists from the Academy will be based at the site, which also includes meeting rooms and conferencing facilities.

The new centre was officially opened by Team GB triathlete Vicky Holland who was joined by guests including Bolton Council leader Cliff Morris and the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Carole Swarbrick on an official tour of the expansive site.

Ruth Doyle, Regional managing director at Aldi for the Bolton region, said: “Our new regional distribution centre in Bolton will provide a hub for Aldi’s growing portfolio of stores across North West England.

“We’re excited to be able to provide modern, innovative facilities for our staff and we’re looking forward to welcoming up to 100 new employees into the business during the next few months.”

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, said: “This is great news for Bolton and the wider region.

“Logistics North is one of the largest industrial developments in the north of England, and Aldi’s distribution centre and other businesses opening there will create a lot of job opportunities for our residents. We are working closely with Aldi and our partners on recruitment and they have already employed a number of staff from Bolton.”
