A car fire started a blaze in a Bolton garage last night.
Fire crews were called to Harlesden Crescent in Briercliffe Road just after midnight when residents saw smoke coming from a set of four detached garages near their homes.
A Volvo C30 was parked in one of the garages when it went up in flames, with the fire spreading out into the garage.
Two engines from Bolton Central were called to the scene and crews had to winch the car out of the garage in order to get the blaze under control.
Watch Manager Karsten Boyle said they believed the fire was caused by an electric fault in the vehicle.
He said: “The owner told us that when he arrived home, only a short time before the fire, there was a signal on his dash board signalling an electrical fault which he was going to deal with later.
“Whatever that problem was it caused the car to set on fire and it spread to the contents of the garage.
“It completely damaged the car and the contents of the garage which included items like mattresses and tyres.”
The fire was isolated to one garage and it took crews an hour and a half to put out the blaze and secure the scene.
