FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at a Bury recycling and waste plant.
Four crews from Bury, Whitefield, Manchester and Rochdale were called to the fire at Viridor Waste Management site, after they received reports of a fire at 6.17am on Saturday morning.
The engines performed a ‘water relay’ onto 150 sq metres of surface waste which are alight, by using continuous jets to tackle the fire for around two and a half hours.
A spokesman for the fire service said their task was complicated because of gas pipes located nearby, but these have now be isolated.
No roads were affected by the fire and disruption to nearby residents was minimal, she added.
