HIGH-flying old boys landed at their former school to encourage current pupils to aim for the sky.

RAF pilot Paul Hutton and ex-RAF pilot John Dunning met Bolton School’s year two class when they were invited to speak about their experience as pilots.

Now a commercial aircraft pilot, Mr Dunning said: “I’ve never had a bad day. Every day is brilliant. It’s a great job, because you get to fly every day.”

The youngsters had a chance to try on the RAF kit and hear about the meaning of their crown and eagle badges.

Pupils asked about ejector seats, the emergency evacuation of a commercial aircraft, and also the more serious aspects of being part of the RAF, such as being a soldier and protecting people, and the dangers of being a pilot.

At the end of the session, the children were taught how to properly perform an RAF salute as a sign of respect to a superior officer.
