TRAVELLERS who were threatened with arrest after setting up camp in Moss Bank Park have moved to a site nearer to Bolton Town Centre.
A group of caravans and other vehicles arrived at the beauty spot near Smithills on Tuesday and were served with a 24-hour notice to leave by Bolton Council.
Having failed to move the group were handed a second 24-hour notice by police who threatened them with arrest if they failed to leave the site by 11am today.
It now appears that the travellers have left the park and moved to a new location in Bolton, in the car park of the former Homebase store on Manchester Road.
The same number of caravans and vehicles matching the description of those seen in the park are now parked up on the site opposite the Burnden Asda store — which Bolton Council confirmed is private land.
A spokesman for Bolton Council said: “Someone from the council will be going to investigate the situation and have a look around.
“We are aware that the land in question is private and will be liaising with the landowner.”
