HE may only be a student, but Anthony Sabanskis’ work has already been shortlisted for an award.
The University of Bolton’s media, writing and production student is in line for a O2 North West Media Award 2013 in the Emerging Talent category.
He was encouraged to enter by his tutor, Anna Zaluczkowska.
Mr Sabanskis, the former producer of Bolton donk pioneers The Blackout Crew, said: ‘If feels good to be nominated.
“There are loads of talented people out there, so being recognised like this is amazing. I’m enjoying the course, I enjoy a challenge and the tutors have been pushing us to get the best results.
“The first people I see for feedback are the tutors on my course as their advice has become invaluable.”
Mr Sabanskis produced and wrote the Bolton anthem, B-Town, which extols the virtues of the town through rap and has made artist Danny Smash an internet sensation.
B-Town has racked up thousands of hits on YouTube.
It was made for the project Bolton Storyworld, which was run through the university and challenged students to come up with an “immersive imaginary version of modern-day Bolton”.
Ms Zaluczkowska said: “I felt Anthony should enter because, although only in his second year, he is already a very talented and adept filmmaker with a great sense of humour.
“I think it’s important that his work is seen by as many people as possible and that his talent is recognised’.
The Emerging Talent Award is open to all college and university students in the North West studying media related courses and looking to enter the industry.
