A NEW production is hoping to cast a spell over its audience as it takes them on a musical adventure into the woods.

Horwich Amateur Theatre Society (HATS) is performing the Sondheim classic - and recent Disney film - Into the Woods at Bolton Little Theatre from May 25 to 28.

The production will mix fairy tale magic and musical adventure with a Steam Punk twist in the hopes of finding a happy ever after.

In an unusual twists one of HATS own cast members, Rebecca Lake, is a real life princess.

The 23-year-old from Haydock was crowned Miss British Isles 2016 earlier this year following a two-day competition in Liverpool.

The family-friendly show of Into the Woods follows the Baker and his wife who, having been cursed by a witch, as they try to find certain items in the woods to help them have a child.

On their journey, they meet other fairytale characters including Little Red Riding Hood, Jack - of Beanstalk fame - and Cinderella.

HATS have previously won awards from the Manchester Musical Awards and the Bolton News for their outstanding productions of Our House, Footloose and Bad Girls.

Local Boltonian and Greater Manchester Drama Federation award winner, Jason Crompton, is directing.

HATS member Jenny Roberts, aka Red Riding Hood, added: "A theatre society based in Horwich for over 60 years, the current cast have been making use of the beautiful countryside around Horwich.

"You may have seen them, in costume, taking promotional shots in the woods on Rivington - much to the surprise of dog walkers. This has certainly inspired them to feel more 'Into the woods'."

Performances start at 7.30pm, including a 2pm Saturday matinee.

Tickets costs £10 and are available from the Bolton Little Theatre box office or by visiting www.boltonlittletheatre.co.uk.
