Former Wanderers boss Neil Lennon has landed a new job overseas with Romanian side Rapid Bucharest.

Lennon has put pen to paper over a two-year contract with FC Rapid after an 18-month spell away from management.

The 52-year-old’s last role was at Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia but he was sacked in 2022 after seven months in the hot seat.

Lennon is relishing the challenge ahead in Romania and hopes he can build a “strong connection” with the supporters.

“In the beginning, I had extensive discussions. Then we met again a few weeks ago and I was very impressed with the project they presented to me,” he told the club website.

“I am very happy to be here, I know that Rapid is a very important name in the history of Romanian football. It's an opportunity for me.

"I hope to create a strong connection between myself and the fans, but that comes with getting positive results and performing. It is my responsibility, I know they are very passionate supporters who love the club.

“I want us to perform, that's my main goal. I hope to meet the supporters soon and I will do everything possible to perform with Rapid."

Lennon had been working as a pundit while he was away from management and was also linked with the positions at Aberdeen and Hibernian among others.

He took charge at Wanderers in 2014 and went on to spend 17 months in the dugout before leaving by mutual consent, with the Whites adrift at the foot of the Championship table amid problems off the pitch.

After leaving Bolton, Lennon had a stint at Hibernian before returning to Celtic for a second spell in charge of the Scottish giants.
