Bolton Wanderers A to Z quiz: Can you guess the players?

A – Bolton Wanderers’ Bayern Munich hero. The only Oman international to play for the club.

B – Scored the equaliser at Morecambe. Twenty goals, Twenty goals!

C – Wanderers’ player of the year in 2001/2. A former Southampton defender.

D – He was known as ‘The Leap’ – a towering Welshman from the sixties.

E – Once a club record transfer. A Geordie who had terrible luck with injury.

F – Great Dane. Signed by Colin Todd, re-signed by Sam Allardyce.

G – Known as the ‘Galloping Chip’ also played for United and Newcastle, heard on the radio.

H – Real Madrid legend. One season at Wanderers, ending with a standing ovation against Everton.

I – Promotion hero from 2020/21. Winger now playing in Australia.

J – Brazilian who turned up at Bolton weighing a little more than he should have done.

K – Zico. Liverpudlian play-maker for Bruce Rioch.

L – Scored more penalties than any other Bolton player. Westhoughton-born legend.

M – Scored his first Bolton goal against Salford City this season.

N – Polish winger signed in late seventies. Transfer fee involved tractors.

O – Now Wolves boss, Bolton’s player of the year in 2019.

P – Bolton Coroners Office is on the phone. Big Finnish striker.

Q – South African midfielder played between 2006 and 2007. Also played for United.

R – Welsh utility defender. Uncle was jockey John Francombe. Signed by Gary Megson.

S – Scored the goal at Manchester City which secured the 1996/97 league title.

T – Midfielder signed by Ian Evatt, now assistant coach of the B Team.

U – Which player scored the promotion clinching goal at Wrexham in 1988, then partied in his underpants?

V – Homegrown midfielder now in the colours of Carlisle United.

W – Burnden legend. His autobiography was called ‘One Hump, or Two?’ X – X marks the spot. Whose penalty secured promotion against Preston North End in 1993?

Y – Youngest player ever to turn out for Wanderers? Went on to play and score for England.

Z – Zero – the number of goals scored by this legendary Irish full-back, who won the European cup with United before helping Wanderers into the First Division in 1978.
