Ladybridge: The Beaumont Arms starting weekly luncheon club

The Beaumont Arms in Ladybridge is starting its new group, "The Beaumont Buddies", from Wednesday, June 5, running weekly at noon from then. 

It will be a weekly luncheon club, offering games, activities and a homemade two-course meal with free tea and coffee for £10 per head. 

Some nights will also have entertainers, forming a "cabaret club". 

Sally May, who took over the pub in March, is trying to target loneliness with the new initiative, offering a place for elderly and isolated people to go to.

She said: "It is a community pub and it is in the middle of a big housing estate, a lot of residents are elderly or have lost partners and it is a way of bringing them all together, knowing they are not on their own, anybody isolated or vulnerable. 

"On the first Wednesday of each month, there will be entertainment and singers.

"We call it the 'Cabaret Club', we will have entertainers doing war songs and older stuff for that generation.

"On the following three weeks we will have background music and games, bingo and card games."

The first event will take place on June 5, a special celebration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day. 

It will have live entertainment and the new Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Andy Morgan, will also attend. 

Sally, although now the landlady, was a regular at the pub for years. Speaking to The Bolton News after she took over in March, she said they were looking to get food back up and running after a year without serving it.
